2023 Kitchen Design Trends

Updated: Aug 3, 2023

While it's not necessary to completely reshape your lifestyle based on design shifts, keeping an eye on forthcoming trends can provide fascinating insights. Here, you will find all about 2023 kitchen design trends! 😍

1. The Shift from Whites to Earth Hues

Safe to say, white kitchens are a safe bet, yet this safety can sometimes render them lacking in individuality. Excitingly, as we progress into 2023 and beyond, we'll see a gradual shift away from this standard white palette. This holds true especially for homeowners not looking to "rent" out their spaces. If you're a bit hesitant about exploring the vibrant color spectrum, consider experimenting with soft, muted earth tones. The Ral1019 and Ral9001 color palettes are worth a look.

2. Cabinets with a Colorful Twist

For those adventurous in spirit, revel in the trend of colored cabinet doors gaining momentum in 2023 and the years to follow. We'll see an influx of bold shades like navy blue, plum, green, and yellow. This development is quite a favorite and promises a vibrant future for us design enthusiasts.

3. Emphasis on Distinctive Lighting

Vintage lighting styles reminiscent of the Art Deco and Bauhaus eras are making a notable comeback in 2023 kitchen design trends. In the coming years, expect to see kitchen lighting that stands out rather than merely blending in with the surroundings. For those not inclined towards Art Deco or Bauhaus, the ever elegant and classy Mid Century Modern style always stands as a timeless alternative.

4. The Confluence of Metals

Designers have long advocated for consistency in the metals used in kitchen design—brass for handles, black for faucets, copper for lighting, and so on. However, 2023 is set to upend this convention. While it might not be a trend all designers will embrace (including myself), we should prepare for a rise in mixed-metal kitchens.

5. Focus on Texture and Pattern

Expect to witness a surge in the usage of textured and patterned materials like handmade ceramics, quartzites, and decorative plasters in kitchen design. The unique patterns of quartzite, notably more resilient than marble, will be more visible in kitchens.

6. The Matchy Matchy Approach

Despite the upcoming turmoil in metal trends, one element of kitchen design remains consistent: the countertop and backsplash material matching. This trend, which I've adhered to in my designs over the years, offers a harmonious and expansive feel and will continue to gain traction.

Alongside these trends, the increased sophistication of smart home appliances heralds a more tech-centric kitchen environment in the near future. While currently a more viable option for the upper-income brackets, a decrease in prices will eventually make smart kitchen technologies accessible to everyone.
